LIGHTWEIGHT SHAWL

A shawl so fine it appears almost translucent — supple and remarkably light. Such delicacy is often associated with machine knitting. Yet this piece is crafted by a single artisan. Woven from an exquisite silk-cashmere blend and accented with a red cross motif, it incorporates rare wool sourced from Hokkaido, where annual yields are exceptionally limited. From washing the raw fibers to dyeing and spinning, each process is carried out with meticulous care. The fibers are spun into threads finer than human hair, then slowly woven on a hand loom over time. The techniques inherited from the artisan’s father in a small workshop on the outskirts of Tokyo achieve a level of delicacy and uniformity reminiscent of machine weaving, making the rarity of the piece all the more remarkable. Each shawl is presented in a custom-made paulownia wood box.

透けるほど薄く、しなやかで軽いショール。機械編みならしばしば見ることはあるだろう。しかし、これはたった1人の職人の手仕事から生まれた一枚。極上のしなやかさを備えたシルクカシミアをベースに、収穫量が非常に少ない北海道産の羊毛を用い、赤いクロスの意匠を織り出した。原毛の洗浄から染色、紡績までを一貫して行い、髪の毛より細い糸に仕立てたのち、手織り機で時間をかけて丹念に織り上げていく。東京近郊の小さな工房で父親から受け継いだ技は、機械織りを思わせるほどの繊細な薄さと均一性を備え、その希少性を一層際立たせる出来栄え。特注の桐箱に収めてお届けします。
